Preserving Wildland

About Wildland Environment

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is distinguished by its diversity due to its vastness, its natural elements, and the multiplicity of biological branches. Such contribute to increasing the ecological diversity of the Kingdom. This nature has produced many endemic species. Threats are present in local wildlife fauna, represented by habitat fragmentation, unsustainable exploitation of resources, and diminishing natural habitat areas for these species. Some of them are occurring and developing rapidly at the national level as a result of these threats.

The National Center for Wildlife (NCW) works on wildlife and its sustainable development through the development and implementation of special protection programs represented in national action plans to preserve and develop wildlife, biological diversity and ecosystems, and to enhance community participation in comprehensive programs and effectively to achieve environmental sustainability and maximize social and economic benefits to preserve this natural heritage in the Kingdom.

NCW Efforts to Protect the Wildlife

1- Developing national strategies and programs that would preserve biodiversity and natural habitats to ensure their sustainability.
2- Identifying environmental problems and proposing appropriate solutions.
3- Creating a database to record species and their geographical distribution on digital spatial maps, which facilitates the process of accessing information, by employing modern technologies.
4- Preparing protocols and guidelines to control the efficiency of transactions in various areas of wildlife to achieve professional safety for field work and regulate the safety of procedures and workflow of field visits and safety for researchers.
5- Develop and activate protocols and guidelines for propagation, reintroduction, and species protection plans according to international best practices.
6- Enriching ecosystems with the missing elements of their biological system through the national program for release and resettlement in natural reserves and national parks.
7- Supporting global efforts to preserve important threatened fungal species and provide sufficient numbers of healthy and genetically sound animals for breeding and reintroduction programs in natural environments.
8- Contributing to reviewing environmental impact assessment studies regarding wildlife for land, marine and coastal projects.
9- Enhancing community awareness in the field of wildlife and biodiversity through extension, cultural and media programmes.
